San Jose Temple Project

We are thrilled to share that the Wat Khmer Kampuchea Krom project was unanimously approved by the San Jose City Council on March 28, 2023.

The temple, located at 2880 Ruby Avenue in San Jose, represents a long-time dream of our founder, Lyna Lam, to serve the local San Jose Khmer Krom community. Wat Khmer Kampuchea Krom will share Buddha’s teachings; practice, teach and promote Khmer Krom arts, language and culture; and serve as a pillar of the Khmer Krom community.

The project plan is comprised of two buildings: a temple sanctuary, which is intended for religious worship and meditation services; and a community building, a multi-use structure with the first floor to house a community hall for gatherings and meals, a kitchen, religious library/classroom, office and bathroom spaces, and a second floor to house eight full-time resident monks. The temple design will remain true and authentic to Khmer temples in Southeast Asia by integrating decorative elements and sculptures that are found in a traditional Cambodian temple.

The new temple will provide welcome and comfort as it opens its doors to celebrate the Buddhist religion of empathy and compassion and meet the community’s spiritual needs.
